Stupid Snack Award

Caramel Corn has been around forever. It kinda reminds me of Cracker Jacks, caramel flavored puffed corn with peanuts. Not bad. Every once in a while they come out with different flavor versions like strawberry, vanilla shake, and this dumb-ass idea. That's right, cola flavored puffed corn. I tried it just a second ago, it's sour cola on the outside and sweet corn on the inside. I think they thought adding a sour cola powder (like that stuff on sour candy) would give it a carbonated taste and feel. It does, but who the heck wants carbonated corn?

Medicom Toy Exhibition '09

The annual Medicom Toy Exhibition opened tonight at Parco in Shibuya. Free snacks, free drinks, and free Kubricks! Unfortunately, it was a little too crowded to get a good look at the toys. I did see a Sponge Bob Bearbrick though, and the Where The Wild Things Are figures looked pretty nice.

Well it seems the fire that I reported on at the beginning of the month was caused by a young arsonist. A 19 year old volunteer firefighter started the fire, along with around 10 other small fires in the neighborhood after a fight with his girlfriend. Fortunately, no one was hurt. See a news report (in Japanese) HERE.

Spent the past few nights in a cabin in Tateshina, Nagano Prefecture. Didn't go out too much, just spent the time relaxing and recuperating from hectic Tokyo. Caught up on some reading, did a little sketching, listened to the iPod, played some old school games like Connect Four, Battleship, Ms. Pac Man, Galaga, and Pole Position. Saw some animals too: cows, a deer, goats, moths of all shapes and sizes, a snake, spiders, etc. We didn't want to come back home.

Kappa Springs

We spent a few nights in Tateshina this week, and on the way there found Kappa no Yu (Kappa Springs) in a small town called Chino. Kappa Springs seems to be a major attraction in the town as there are signs all along the main street. It's a typical Japanese public bath featuring natural hot springs, and more importantly kappa statues out front!

There was a fire down the street tonight. Not sure exactly what happened or how big it was, but it brought something like 15 fire trucks and 5 police cars.
